Claude Science Ships: A Research Workbench With 60+ Scientific Databases and Native 3D Protein Rendering

On June 30, 2026, Anthropic launched Claude Science, an AI workbench for scientific research delivered as a beta add-on to Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscriptions on macOS and Linux. The launch anchored The Briefing: AI for Science, a virtual event that ran the same morning with a speaker slate that included Vas Narasimhan as Novartis CEO and Anthropic board member, Chris Boerner as Bristol Myers Squibb board chair and CEO, Aviv Regev as Genentech's EVP for Research and Early Development, Eric Kauderer-Abrams as Anthropic's Head of Life Sciences, and Lotte Bjerre Knudsen.
What Claude Science actually does
Consolidates literature analysis, multi-step research execution, and reproducible artifacts inside a single research environment rather than a general chat surface.
Renders 3D protein structures, genome tracks, and chemical structures natively inside Claude, so scientists can inspect visualizations without moving files between tools.
Ships more than 60 curated skills preconfigured for genomics, single-cell analysis, proteomics, structural biology, and cheminformatics.
Runs compute against a personal laptop, an HPC cluster, or on-demand GPU services, letting the same workflow scale from a desk to a supercomputer.
Pairs the primary research agent with a reviewer agent that checks citations and calculations for accuracy before results are surfaced.
The database and toolkit integrations
Claude Science ships with connectors to the core life-sciences reference systems that most computational-biology work touches: UniProt for protein sequences, the Protein Data Bank for three-dimensional structures, Ensembl and ClinVar for genomics, Reactome for biological pathways, ChEMBL for pharmaceutical chemistry, and GEO for gene expression data. It also integrates with NVIDIA's BioNeMo Agent Toolkit for compute-intensive workflows, plus custom lab tools and internal datasets through the connector layer.

Available in beta on macOS and Linux for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers.
Team plan carries discounted per-seat pricing for academic institutions and nonprofit research organizations.
Anthropic committed up to $30,000 in credits for select AI for Science projects with applications closing July 15, 2026.
The launch coincides with Anthropic's April 2026 acquisition of Coefficient Bio, an eight-person team of former Genentech computational biologists purchased for approximately $400 million in stock.
Why this matters for builders
The reviewer-agent pattern that verifies citations and calculations before surfacing results is the reusable design here. Any agent shipping into a regulated scientific domain benefits from a second-agent verification step against the same evidence base, and Claude Science is the first mainstream product that puts that pattern in front of a paying audience. The other read is commercial: Anthropic is treating the pharma research workflow as a first-class surface rather than a chat window bolted on top of PubMed lookups, which sets a benchmark for what depth of vertical integration a life-sciences AI product now has to hit.
